October 2026 Security Brief
Our first monthly brief. Short and practical: what changed, what is coming, and what to do about it.
What changed: the guard wage schedule is out
On September 1, 2026, the NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection posted the first minimum wage schedule under Local Law 61 of 2026, the new law for certain private security guards. It takes effect January 1, 2027. If you contract security in the city, now is the time to ask your provider how it affects next year.
What is coming: holiday season and fall crowds
Retail, hospitality and event calendars fill up fast from Thanksgiving through New Year's. The NYC Marathon in early November and holiday markets bring street closures and heavy foot traffic. Plan deliveries, staff arrivals and guest entry around them.
What to do this month
Book holiday coverage now, not in December. Walk your exits and check that none are blocked by seasonal stock or decor. And update the after hours contact list your security team uses, so the right person gets the call at 2 AM.
